BACKGROUND
The Strategic Partnerships Unit has a specific focus on development of sustainable and impactful partnerships with bilateral and multilateral organizations, foundations, the private sector and major donors and on driving the resource mobilization efforts across the IUCN Secretariat. As a member of the Strategic Partnerships Unit, the Partnerships Officer will support the drive to diversify and grow IUCN’s engagement with key Government donors and multilateral funding institutions. The Officer will collaborate with internal stakeholders to strengthen IUCN’s approach to partnerships with bilateral and multilateral partners.
The Partnerships Officer will support relationship-building and engagement efforts, with a clear understanding of donor priorities and funding trends and support the capacity building of IUCN staff in securing bilateral and multilateral funding and stewarding donor relationships.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Identify and support the growth of unrestricted and flexible funding by developing targeted engagement strategies with IUCN’s current and new bilateral donors.
2. Contribute to the development of a strong business case for support from government donors.
3. Develop and coordinate new structured partnerships with OECD DAC and non-OECD DAC donors for flexible funding to support IUCN’s priorities.
4. Build, maintain and expand networks with key officials from donor agencies, promoting new ideas and opportunities for engagement.
5. Work with IUCN’s regional offices to develop specific strategies with emerging donors aimed at developing new partnerships opportunities.
6. Gather and analyze Official Development Assistance (ODA) and emerging donors’ policies, trends, and priorities and identify opportunities for engagement.
7. Prepare funding partners' profiles (geographic and thematic priorities/areas of interest, eligibility criteria, funding mechanisms, etc.).
8. Prepare pitches for use with specific donor agencies supported by a comprehensive understanding of policies and priorities.
9. Identify strategically relevant calls for proposals and coordinate internal processes for submission.
10. Contribute to the development of communications products and outreach events to support engagement, visibility, and outreach with existing and prospective donors/partners.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director to contribute to the success of the team, including guiding and coaching IUCN staff as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Advanced university degree in international development, business, international relations, political science or related field.
2. At least six to eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in partnership building and resource-mobilization related activities.
3. Experience working in a global and multi-national environment, preferably in a multi-cultural organization providing support on a global scope with at least five years at the international level of progressively responsible experience.
4. Knowledge of environment, conservation and development.
5. Excellent writing and communication skills in English with the ability to synthesize analyses and present materials effectively and tailored to different audiences. Working knowledge of French or Spanish desirable.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between CHF 100'355 and CHF 125'444, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice.
