CERN is a place where the world of science and technology converge. As an Electrical Engineer within the Cabling Section in the Engineer Department, you will play a key role in expanding, strengthening, and maintaining CERN's signal and power cable installations.
The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project requires the installation of over 1,200 km of signal cables in the next three years. You will work closely with equipment experts and take part in technical discussions to ensure the optimal design of the cabling systems.
Your Responsibilities
* Analysing requests for new signal and power cables and modification to existing ones;
* Participating in site surveys to assess installation conditions;
* Conducting technical studies, including the definition of cable routes (considering cable trays occupancy, EMC, and safety rules), and verification of the compatibility between cables and connectors;
* Designing patch panels to segment cable installations, particularly for areas requiring periodic replacement due to radiation exposure or to facilitate execution;
* Preparing execution documentation (cable lists, material lists, planning, risk assessments, etc.) for CERN's installation contractors;
* Organising, supervising and ensuring safety on your worksites, requiring interactions with contractors and CERN users from other groups/departments;
* Developing, structuring, and overseeing project documentation, including progress reports, design reports, spending profiles, and schedules;
* Reviewing, writing, and enhancing procedures for connector assembly on cables, as well as testing and installation processes.
Your Profile
We are looking for a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with experience in managing electrical infrastructure projects, designing and installing signal and power cables, along with their associated connectors.
* Excellent team-working attitude;
* Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage;
* A professional background in Electrical Engineering (or a related field);
* A Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience;
* Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
What We Offer
* A monthly stipend ranging between 6287 and 6911 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax);
* Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund;
* Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract;
* 30 days of paid leave per year;
* On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
