Biometrics has been a field of research for over 40 years. Today, most biometric technologies rely on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and are transitioning to the paradigm of Foundation Models – large AI models trained on broad data.

The Idiap Research Institute is seeking qualified candidates for three postdoctoral positions in the areas of Fundamental Model Applications for Face Presentation Attack Detection, Person Recognition from a Distance, and Explainable AI and Privacy-Preserving AI for Biometrics. These positions will be aligned with new European-funded projects and should be filled as soon as possible.

Candidates will work within the Biometrics Security and Privacy Group under the supervision of Professor Sébastien Marcel.

Postdoctoral appointments typically last one year, with possibilities for renewal based on performance.

The duties of a postdoctoral researcher include:
">
* Carrying out research tasks assigned by the project and following its evolution.
* Completing project-related assignments, including evaluations and deliverables.
* Publishing research results in academic journals and conferences.
* Participating in project meetings and boards when necessary.
* Taking on a leading role as an Idiap contact point or work package leader.
* Supervising PhD students and interns in collaboration with their supervisors.
* Contributing to various Idiap activities and projects as requested by their supervisor(s) or management.

Your profile:

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics. They should also demonstrate excellent research experience in their field, a strong publication record, and the ability to conduct creative and significant research with a reasonable level of autonomy.

We are looking for applicants with expertise in Deep Learning (DCNNs, Transformers, GANs, Diffusion Models) and Large Multimodal Language Models. Applicants should also have a strong background in statistics, optimisation, linear algebra, and proficient programming skills (C/C++ and/or Python, e.g., PyTorch) with the Linux environment.
