This position is located within our Discovery Research Units within the Oncology Discovery organization dedicated to the discovery and development of novel cancer therapeutics. We collaborate closely with functions in Therapeutic Modalities, Pharmaceutical Science as well as within the oncology therapeutic area to translate hypotheses into innovative therapeutics.
The Opportunity
As a Research Associate Discovery Oncology, you will address fundamental scientific questions, be responsible for the design and execution of experimental work, and conduct data analysis. You will coordinate and manage multiple orthogonal studies and share knowledge through collaboration with other scientists and associates inside and outside the group. A significant part of your time will be devoted to engineering immune cells for next-generation cell therapy research. With growing experience, you may also manage a small team of interns and/or apprentices. To advance our science and our programs, you can leverage your expertise with tasks such as:
1. Planning, conducting, analyzing and interpreting functional in vitro assays, including co-culture assays with tumor cells with biologics and/or cell therapy drug candidates.
2. Plan and perform complex multicolor flow cytometry assays and analysis.
3. Culturing and engineering of immune cells e.g., via CRISPR/Cas9-based gene-editing, lenti- or retrovirus-derived VLP transduction methods.
4. Present your findings at internal meetings and maintain accurate electronic records.
5. Conducting and documenting original research independently. With experience and capabilities, you will qualify for increased responsibilities and a higher seniority level.
Who you are
BSc/MSc in a life science discipline or completed Roche apprenticeship with at least 2 years of experience in a biomedical research laboratory (prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry desired).
* Very high motivation to drive forward innovation in drug discovery for cancer immunotherapy applications.
* Solid knowledge in either immuno-oncology or synthetic biology and previous hands-on experience in these research areas.
* Strong expertise in flow cytometry and/or functional characterization of immunotherapy drug candidates or target assessment in that field.
* Extensive experience in cell culture techniques, preferably involving immune cells, e.g., PBMC isolation from human blood and functional assays with primary cells.
* Collaborative team player, eager to learn, adapt and maintain a positive attitude and enjoy working in a high pace and flexible environment.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Good organizational and planning skills and a careful and reliable way of working.
