The group of Prof. Dr. med. Olivier Devuyst within the Department of Physiology at the University of Zurich is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and collaborative Lab Technician to become a member of the group and to develop, implement, and support our ongoing research ideas.
Our group is investigating mechanisms of kidney diseases, a growing health issue in Switzerland. Our translational studies are using molecular and cell biology techniques, metabolic studies, and genetics applied on various models. Ultimately, our goal is to improve the understanding and the treatment of diseases affecting the kidney.
We are taking advantage of innovative model systems and integrating them with molecular and state–of–the art cell biology techniques to develop novel therapies and biomarkers that can improve patient care. We have access to technological platforms (phenotyping, imaging, cell physiology, and functional genomics) and patient material (European networks, biobanks). We play an active role in national and international networks on rare genetic diseases, and collaborative partnerships with pharma and biotech companies in Switzerland.
Your Responsibilities
You will participate in our research projects using model systems according to well-established protocols. These studies include genotyping, molecular biology/biochemical techniques, and metabolic studies in vivo. You will work within a team including other technicians, Post-docs, and PhD students with regular meetings and emphasis on training. The role also involves general lab duties.
Your Profile
* Completed education as a laboratory technician (EFZ Laborant*in) in biology or a university degree with additional lab experience
* Experience with cell culture and basic laboratory techniques (Western Blot, PCR, ELISA, colorimetric assays) is required
* Experience with tissue sectioning (paraffin-/cryo- blocks) would be an asset
* FELASA certificate (M1). Species-specific practical course (M20) would be an asset
* Precise, well-organized, and proactive
* Familiarity with safety protocols and laboratory best practices
* Flexibility and openness to learn new techniques
