Your responsibilities
Are you an experienced software developer, or a scientist with a masters degree or PhD interested in the challenges offered by computing for High Energy Physics? Do you want to contribute to the software R&D at the heart of LHC data processing?
CVMFS is a global, read-only filesystem that specializes in delivering software and helps to enable distributed scientific computing across cloud- and supercomputing sites at a global scale.
In particular, you will:
1. Improve the performance and usability of the CVMFS client and publisher
2. Work with cloud- and supercomputing facilities to make CVMFS more accessible
3. Contribute to the baseline support and maintenance tasks of the project.
Your profile
Skills
4. Experience with software version control (e.g. git) and build tooling
5. Good C++ knowledge. In particular: STL interfaces and algorithms, parallelism, thread-safety.
6. Competencies in systems and network programming (e.g libcurl)
7. UNIX knowledge, in particular familiarity with filesystem concepts.
Optional but a plus:
8. Experience with container technologies (such as docker)
9. Knowledge of the Go language
10. Experience with HEP experiments code, their software lifecycle and build tooling.

11. You are a national of a .
12. You have a professional background in STEM (or a related field) and have either:a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
13. You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information
Job closing date: 09.12.2024 at 23:59 hrs CET.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week

What we offer
15. A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax) .

17. Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
